The programming, operation, materials, and means of constructing residential facilities is different than commercial facilities, and the materials that makeup the primary barriers are often different. This session is designed to simplify the primary barriers into three categories (air, thermal, and weather barriers) and discuss the similarities. Once this is accomplished, it becomes clear that the skills required to analyze these systems translates between both types of facilities, which broadens the base of potential projects, clients, scope, and revenue. The analysis of various cladding systems, anchoring mechanisms, air barriers, and insulation systems will be discussed.
